A Recount of the Taronga Zoo Excursion


Excursion assignment

 
  1. Arrange an excursion. Taronga Zoo was chosen, and booked.  Student excursion forms were filled, approved, and documented.
 
  1. Models and explanations given on the purpose, layout and staging of writing a personal recount: orientation: when, where, who, what, how + record of events + reorientation with comments
 
  1. During the excursion.  Take notes when needed.  Ask questions on the excursion day.  Try to collect as much information about the zoo.
 
  1. Recall the excursion: walk around to chat with as many students in the class as possible about the experience. Students were encouraged to tell 3 students about his/her excursion day.   
  1. Collective recount exercise in class to construct a recount of the excursion to the Taronga.
 
Performance Criteria:
1           Text structure is appropriate to the genre.
Range:      orientation, record of events, reorientation.
 
2           The text is organized in time /events order.
 
3           Writing makes correct use of conjunctions.
 
Range:      may include but is not limited to – contrastive, additive, causal, and temporal.
 
4           Writing makes correct use of past tense verb forms.
 
5           Writing makes correct use of a range of vocabulary.
Range:      meaning, grammatical form, word order.
 
6           Writing makes appropriate use of descriptive phrases.
Range:      adjectival, adverbial.
 
7      Sentence structures are complete and convey relevant meaning. Dictionary, list of topic related vocabularies and terms, Parliament education booklets are allowed. 
Range:      sentences may include but are not limited to – simple, compound, complex.
 
Conditions:
 
o Identify the intended audience
o Identify the purpose of text and pertinent layout
o Plan the writing task
o Check, edit the complete task
o Two drafts, reflection on the first draft
o Use the stages of a personal recount
o Use the past tense
o Use the range of tenses necessary for the recount
o Use time linking words, and conjunctions to join ideas together
o Use the vocabulary and terms pertinent for the task
o Complete writing within the time frame -- 50 minutes in class
o  Dictionary, list of topic related vocabularies and terms, Parliament education booklets are allowed.

The Grounds of Alexandria

Why do I reckon the Grounds of Alexandria is a good site for class excursion?
This is a beautiful and relaxing site for leisure activity or meet-up with friends.


The class decided to visit Taronga Zoo, as majority of the students found it more educational.
